More than one million people have been killed or injured in the Ukraine war, NATO's chief said yesterday.
.
"Every week, there are over 10,000 killed or wounded on all sides in Ukraine," NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said in Brussels on Thursday.
.
The statistic implies 1.4 million deaths since February 2022, the date Rutte counts as the beginning of hostilities.
.
(Most historians say the war started in 2014, when the US-backed western Ukrainians started hostilities in Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine which led to 14,400 deaths.)

ACTUAL NUMBERS
Neither Ukraine nor Russia reveal actual statistics of dead or wounded, although both imply that the other side suffered more.
.
If we look at "confirmed dead" lists, which include names of the dead, there are about 60,000 to 80,000 dead on each side. This figure is clearly an under-estimate, as many battlefield dead are hard to recover or identify.
.
As for casualties, list of estimated figures in circulation say up to 250,000 Ukrainians have been wounded, in comparison to about 700,000 Russians.
.
But since all these estimates are issued by tainted sources – the governments of Ukraine, the US and the UK, and the BBC – these are unlikely to be accurate, and may equally well be the opposite of the truth.

BIDEN'S RUSH TO SEND MORE
Rutte's announcement appears to have been timed to back up a series of moves by the Biden Administration in the US to rapidly send more cash and guns to Ukraine, amid fears that incoming president Donald Trump may stop the war.
.
The Biden Administration's apparent hunger for conflict, and the Republicans aversion to it has come as a surprise to many analysts.
.
However, their respective positions make sense when one considers that the leadership of the Democratic Party has long served the corporate gods known as the establishment, the "the blob", the Military-Media-Industrial-Complex, and so on.
.
In contrast, the present leadership of the Republican Party wants to wrest at least some of the power away from the behind-the-scenes powerbrokers.

HONEST ABOUT U.S. ROLE
Also, it's worth noting that the intellectual element in the US right-of-center (yes, it exists) has been far more honest about the US' role in the Ukraine conflict from the beginning.
.
"In Ukraine, 'American leadership' meant lying to Moscow and adopting policies that helped turn it into an adversary—expanding NATO to Russia’s borders, backing 'color revolutions' against Moscow’s neighbors, dismantling Russia’s historic friend Serbia, targeting the Russo-friendly Yanukovich regime, allowing NATO into Ukraine (rather than Ukraine into NATO), and refusing to negotiate with Moscow over allied policies," said Doug Bandow in an article in The American Conservative which was reprinted in full by the Cato Institute.
.
Bandow wrote that in October 2023, but it now looks highly prophetic, with the Biden Administration recently launching blatant color revolutions in Moldova, Georgia and Romania.
.
The mainstream media, rather shockingly, has hidden the US involvement and desperately tried to blame Russia in every case. |
