[读书笔记] 丁尼生 《尤利西斯》 节选

本杰明格雷厄姆八十岁生日爬梯上对儿孙们做了个演讲,演讲最后以这一段诗作结尾。这首诗是写老年的,不过我看了后觉得很受激励,就抄录下来以作自勉:6 W1 K1 m! i8 l

'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
5 S# I# Q; M! L" ?: t" N4 S
. t+ O5 S  w: M2 U1 l/ X" v( DPush off, and sitting well in order smite
. Z3 E6 L1 S. z, }0 P( x 8 }' R, n) b$ U  c; g3 v
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds" W) s, r& K" c8 @" I0 g& j: q2 ]
. r" E. j4 C! n. T* M) U- M2 ^
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths7 q7 g2 f1 M8 P, w! S5 a$ f
; J. U' K9 Y0 Y) J
Of all the western stars,until I die.  V! E0 L" R3 ^( z1 a0 l

; j6 M7 ~9 \( r4 R5 wIt may be that the gulfs will wash us down;, Y7 m, w" d  ]5 ^, Q

Though much is taken, much abides; and though

We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will# `  b" m5 x. _5 T" O

To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield.
