[读书笔记] 丁尼生 《尤利西斯》 节选

本杰明格雷厄姆八十岁生日爬梯上对儿孙们做了个演讲,演讲最后以这一段诗作结尾。这首诗是写老年的,不过我看了后觉得很受激励,就抄录下来以作自勉:8 _& O5 f3 t0 R. l/ H- I

* R9 |% Q6 J: k" `9 {7 }'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
5 Q% d# m* u6 L : S5 K! }2 x: d/ j# E2 s/ y+ c
Push off, and sitting well in order smite* e# R8 U+ p$ x% _8 o  A

& C* m4 @$ Y0 v! ^4 j* r- m: OThe sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
# [9 ?0 o+ {# e/ x1 \. |( y
1 {$ `$ L8 ?6 X+ T# R7 o/ |To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths3 l. |( N6 c2 U2 t9 P1 P

$ a# G; M4 Q" I, HOf all the western stars,until I die.
3 |/ ?! [3 g" J! V1 e & Q" R1 E8 r' ]1 `
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down;5 I0 f2 S+ |' c: P1 A8 ^, z

- M; D4 q0 U+ N' j7 NIt may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,, F1 S* H4 C' ~0 H9 o

And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.8 a; e7 {$ k' l: p# }

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
