[读书笔记] 丁尼生 《尤利西斯》 节选

本杰明格雷厄姆八十岁生日爬梯上对儿孙们做了个演讲,演讲最后以这一段诗作结尾。这首诗是写老年的,不过我看了后觉得很受激励,就抄录下来以作自勉:/ L; A/ c, }$ M% }9 d

'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.

! ^6 q! r$ t+ G" N4 YPush off, and sitting well in order smite

8 b1 O# f8 c) \- q4 u7 Y. g  KThe sounding furrows; for my purpose holds; N: U$ `& u) N1 T9 w1 W
0 W5 g0 Q! i; Q3 n" ~: L
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths4 b& S% M# I9 v
$ K& w" D; V3 V0 v
Of all the western stars,until I die.* K1 r7 p. ~$ a4 e3 N. p* G; |

& _( D0 C# b$ j) OIt may be that the gulfs will wash us down;

It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,; m1 E- w2 O3 e

( Q: ~0 b8 ^4 x  W  L4 XAnd see the great Achilles, whom we knew.

Though much is taken, much abides; and though

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are
