[读书笔记] 丁尼生 《尤利西斯》 节选

本杰明格雷厄姆八十岁生日爬梯上对儿孙们做了个演讲,演讲最后以这一段诗作结尾。这首诗是写老年的,不过我看了后觉得很受激励,就抄录下来以作自勉:

' n' T1 H& _+ G) O$ m5 P" Y'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.) [& n2 u+ t/ B/ g: F: ~! E* s% Q
2 a5 L0 U- _+ o" t& ?/ C' Z4 `6 ^
Push off, and sitting well in order smite% _  r$ J- @% N

$ w5 X7 g; h0 x) C; ?The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
7 ~, {: l* H5 }* L3 R- z ) ]% F# e( V/ r+ ]3 N
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths5 o% w+ ]0 G5 K& e8 K/ b" _  l

, t, E( V! R/ N# NOf all the western stars,until I die.- K6 i# E4 S* x4 i2 m  X

9 {, v5 _' ^: fIt may be that the gulfs will wash us down;6 V8 g* M" Z! ?/ O* V7 @0 ^6 B

Though much is taken, much abides; and though

We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are/ N7 R! \: w, Q0 T) g6 o% S; O

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
