China has sent warplanes to its newly declared air defence zone in the East China Sea, state media reports.1 c/ t# D' W+ l' P1 z
* ^/ Q6 b. F f; GThe vast zone, announced last week, covers territory claimed by China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.

" t% r6 S. Q% \4 c. ^$ tChina has said all planes transiting the zone must file flight plans and identify themselves, or face "defensive emergency measures".

The zone includes islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, which are claimed by Japan, China and Taiwan.8 i9 G* o p, x; T0 @- B
& v3 l# H. o" k2 I5 T6 j3 ?, U' fJapan controls the islands, which have been the focus of a bitter and long-running dispute between Japan and China.6 p0 u3 @& l1 G

America, which called the move a "destabilising attempt to alter the status quo in the region", flew two unarmed B-52 bombers through the zone unannounced on Tuesday.+ w0 l# g a4 h6 P, z' `

South Korea's military said one of their planes also entered the zone on Tuesday.
