The vast zone, announced last week, covers territory claimed by China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.

The zone includes islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, which are claimed by Japan, China and Taiwan.

The zone also covers a submerged rock that South Korea says forms part of its territory.

China's move has been condemned by the US and Japan.

' I9 i+ E2 }1 l% AAmerica, which called the move a "destabilising attempt to alter the status quo in the region", flew two unarmed B-52 bombers through the zone unannounced on Tuesday.

South Korea's military said one of their planes also entered the zone on Tuesday.

管控防空识别区需要较强的预警能力和反应能力，需要武装力量具备相应的技术装备和训练水平。随着现代航空技术的发展，各种高空、高速、低空、隐身航空器广泛运用，没有较强的预警能力，划设防空识别区就是纸上谈兵；没有较强的快速反应能力，不能及时判明突发情况，并采取有效应对措施，划设的防空识别区也是无防之域。
