The zone includes islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, which are claimed by Japan, China and Taiwan.# ?* X1 s% h0 `! o7 x$ i3 C* L
- N; |3 o3 a% @6 f0 O. EJapan controls the islands, which have been the focus of a bitter and long-running dispute between Japan and China.

The zone also covers a submerged rock that South Korea says forms part of its territory. Q7 t. J) b; R* V

China's move has been condemned by the US and Japan.+ O3 g3 d7 p: k$ x: e
! k" E% D3 n, \5 O W8 u. Y6 hAmerica, which called the move a "destabilising attempt to alter the status quo in the region", flew two unarmed B-52 bombers through the zone unannounced on Tuesday.

. A4 x/ X# C7 ~South Korea's military said one of their planes also entered the zone on Tuesday.
