China has sent warplanes to its newly declared air defence zone in the East China Sea, state media reports.5 U/ `9 c5 x8 r, K. q7 G

China has said all planes transiting the zone must file flight plans and identify themselves, or face "defensive emergency measures".# O: T8 V9 F0 l# `

The zone includes islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, which are claimed by Japan, China and Taiwan., N) V' {( K6 R. q( B

Japan controls the islands, which have been the focus of a bitter and long-running dispute between Japan and China.8 h! ]7 i# {7 q9 x

China's move has been condemned by the US and Japan.0 b9 |2 O5 n- k& o5 q
$ T2 x; ^- L' M! dAmerica, which called the move a "destabilising attempt to alter the status quo in the region", flew two unarmed B-52 bombers through the zone unannounced on Tuesday.
