Nobody said the revolution was going to be easy.
A self-governed commune set up by activists in Seattle is experiencing some teething problems, judging by social media.
The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) was set up around the abandoned East Precinct police station, with the aim of creating a district independent of the city, Washington State, and the federal authorities.
Some anarchic practices are in place, such as no police. But some conventions remain, including designated smoking areas.
There’s an outdoor cinema, which has been showing documentaries, including Ava DuVernay’s '13th'.
There are mixed messages coming from CHAZ regarding food, with one resident claiming that there’s plenty of it, and another asking for donations of vegan meat substitutes, fruit, soy and 'anything to help us eat.'
There have also been requests for gardening equipment, presumably to help make this real-life Animal Crossing island self-sustainable. |
