CHINA CAN LOSE HYPERSONIC RACE
It is commonly known that China has deployed hypersonic missiles while the United States appears to be facing challenges in deploying similar technology. However, the reality is different when it comes to assessing the level of hypersonic technology possessed by both countries. Let me explain why.
First, let's clarify the definition of a hypersonic missile. Hypersonic refers to speeds equivalent to Mach 5 and above, but any missile flying faster than Mach 5 is not automatically considered a hypersonic missile because ballistic missiles have been achieving hypersonic speeds for over 60 years, yet they were not referred to as hypersonic missiles. The reason behind this is that ballistic missiles follow a predictable trajectory and a curved ballistic trajectory.
On the other hand, true hypersonic missiles are classified as
(1).Boost Glide Vehicles
(2).Scramjets.
These systems not only travel at high speeds but also have the capability to maneuver at hypersonic velocities. It is this maneuverability that makes them particularly fearsome and formidable for air defense.
A boost-glide vehicle typically utilizes a ballistic missile for the booster stage. Once the booster reaches the desired speed, a warhead called a glider or glide vehicle is detached from the booster. This glider then glides through the upper atmosphere at hypersonic speeds. Unlike traditional missiles, the glider does not have a separate engine; instead, it relies on thrusters and control surfaces for maneuvering. However, as the glider approaches its target, it needs to descend, resulting in a significant decrease in speed due to the increased air drag and the requirement for target acquisition.
On the other hand, a scramjet, also known as an air-breathing scramjet or hypersonic cruise missile, has its own dedicated engine called a scramjet engine. This engine allows the scramjet to be propelled continuously, making it more maneuverable compared to a glide vehicle. Additionally, scramjets operate at low altitudes because they require oxygen. This low-altitude operation provides the potential advantage of being harder to detect by enemy radar. Thus, a scramjet is considered more versatile and superior to a glide vehicle. However, it is worth noting that the development of scramjets is more complex and challenging.

Among these two types, China possesses only the inferior Glide Vehicle DF-17, while US has placed significant emphasis on the superior Scramjet technology. The US has recently conducted successful tests, albeit with some failures. Notably, the US is not only focusing on Scramjet development but is also tackling the more technically challenging aspect of air launching. This technology is specifically designed for conventional warfare, requiring a high level of accuracy.

Once completed, it will have a range of 10000 km when launched from an intercontinental bomber. It boasts a compact size of only 4 meters in length, allowing bombers to carry 20 units and fighter jets to carry 2 units. In contrast, the Chinese DF-17, which is 12 meter long (including the booster), can only be launched from land.
The US is also developing a Glide Vehicle called LRHW, which is set to be deployed in 2023. Additionally, the US is actively working on both hypersonic missiles and anti-hypersonic missile systems. Upcoming Defence systems programs like "Glide Phase Interceptor" are planned for deployment in 2024, followed by DARPA's "Glide Breaker" and "Next Generation Interceptor(NGI)". These systems will not solely rely on interceptor missiles but will be accompanied by a space-based constellation of infrared sensor satellites namely :
-Hypersonic And Ballistic Tracking Space Sensors (HBTSS)
-Overhead Persistant Infrared(OPIR)
-Space Based Infrared System(SBIR)
In 2021, China demonstrated the use of glide vehicles in its FOBS (Fractional Orbital Bombardment System), which circumnavigated the Earth. However, FOBS itself is not a new technology; the Soviet Union had it in the 1960s but eventually abandoned the program due to its inadequacy and unreliability in hitting targets. Intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) proved to be much more effective than FOBS. In 2021, China's FOBS test also failed to hit its intended target by 40 km. Furthermore, FOBS requires a space rocket for launch and fixed launch stations that are vulnerable to attacks. Even if China continues to pursue FOBS, it can still be detected and tracked by the aforementioned space-based infrared sensors.

It is worth noting that there are false hypersonic missiles that do not utilize glide vehicles or scramjets, such as the Russian Kinzhal and the Chinese YJ-21. These missiles are essentially similar to other ballistic missiles. The news of the Patriot Defense system shooting down a Russian Kinzhal is not surprising, as the Kinzhal lacks a scramjet and glide vehicle, rendering it incapable of high maneuverability.

So, it is important to understand that the mere possession of hypersonic missiles by China and the apparent struggles of the United States in deploying them do not accurately reflect the true level of hypersonic technology that both countries possess. China cannot boast and rest on its laurels while failing to master scramjet technology and a defense system against hypersonic threats.China should intensify its efforts in scramjet development , Go, China!

ta连scramjet和高超是什么关系都没有弄清楚,也对中国scramjet的发展一无所知。
