ENGLISH WRITING was found on recovered parts of the infamous balloon, it was revealed this morning. This was a strong indication that the so-called “Chinese spy balloon” was actually made, in part or entirely, by western manufacturers. The news emerged after a classified briefing in the U.S. on Thursday where senators were briefed by officials from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Defense.
.
The press is sticking rigidly with the “it’s a Chinese spy balloon” angle and now is starting a witchhunt on which western manufacturers may be providing parts.
.
But a much wider range of views is being circulated on social media, with American citizens, as well as people from around the world, being much more open about possibilities. “Not a coincidence that NASA uses a balloon exactly that size,” said former NASA flight operations specialist Jim Mills.
.
The fact that the balloon was so obviously not hidden strongly suggests a non-hostile purpose, many people said.
.
Furthermore, the fact that the US allowed it to travel across the entire country before being shot down over the sea was unshakeable evidence that it was a) not spying and b) designated as something to be kept out of the hands of US citizens, who might tell the truth about it: military intelligence always insists on controlling the narrative.
.
At the same time, a widely circulated picture of the balloon with Chinese writing on the outside was revealed to be a photoshopped fake.
.
But which western firms made all or part of the balloon? A quick search reveals that there are lots of groups making high altitude surveillance balloons, including private companies and military ones, and have been doing so on large scale since 2019.
.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden on Thursday announced that he wanted to bring manufacturing back to the United States. Rather unfortunate timing, perhaps. |
