A little over a year ago a friend had messaged me with a request. Tenaya Lake was the place he popped the question to his wife so many years ago, and he asked if I could grab a shot with the Milky Way over it. I told him I could do it without a problem, but it would have to wait til next year (2019) for the stars to realign.
Months passed by and Tenaya Lake remained on my 2019 MW Checklist. I haven’t really spent too much time out in this area. Usually I would get dropped off at a trailhead then hike out from there. Ideas and compositions were running frantically through my head throughout the last couple months. Do I shoot it from right on the lake, do I go up one of the surrounding domes? This is a shot requested by an old friend of mine, I want to do my best and provide them with an image that brings back some of those memories they created all those years ago.
So I set out to Polly Dome last week to ensure that this was the view I was envisioning. I made it up there a little beat up & exhausted, but the stoke was there 100%. This was the viewpoint I would return to a few days later.
Tenaya Lake, Clouds Rest, & Half Dome in the distance all sitting peacefully beneath those glowing lights we call our galaxy. |
