Everest - 8,848m & Lhotse – 8516m Anniversary
I first went to #Everest on a break between war tours, leaving the violence and crazy of Afghanistan for the chaos and pain of the mountain. Back then I was the first ever Gurkha turned operator within the SBS. Fear barely dinged me — being killed was an occupational hazard. But brother, Everest came close!
My near failure was self-inflicted – I went for the unexpected opportunity too quickly. But I was representing the Gurkhas and the British Special Forces. I wasn’t going to dent their reputation.
In 2019, I returned with a bigger plan, I summited Everest with Lakpa Dendi Sherpa and Lhotse with Sonam Sherpa on this day. My plan was to break my own previous record from 2017 (summited these two 8000ers in 10 hours 15mins) but I was unable to do so due to being stuck in the traffic on the Hillary step. Believe it or not, having stuck in the traffic for more than 4 hours, I still managed to complete both summits in the same duration as before.
However, the project was not only about breaking records. There were immense driving force behind this against-all-odds mission. Find more in my book #beyondpossible
