PICTURE OF THE WEEK - INSIDE THE BELLY OF THE GIANT

This is the last picture of our glacier cave adventure some weeks ago. Look at those structures of the icy ceiling!
Whenever I explore a glacier cave I can't stop gazing in wonder and awe at the icy surface and have to touch its smooth walls.
I am always asking myself: How many centuries ago had those snowflakes fallen, that had been necessary to build that ice, that we can see and touch now again, due to the melting process in the belly of the giant?

Heute mein letztes Bild aus der Gletscherhöhle. Schaut euch einmal diese Strukturen in der Eisdecke an!

Immer wenn ich solch eine Gletscherhöhle erkunde stehe ich staunend wie ein kleines Kind vor dem Eis  und muss die glatte und zugleich teilweise auch rauhe Oberfläche berühren. Dann frage ich mich immer wie viele Jahrhunderte es wohl her sein mag,  als die Schneekristalle fielen, die nötig waren um durch gewaltigen Druck sich zu dem Gletschereis zu verwandeln,  welches wir durch das Schmelzen des Eises im Bauch des Riesen wieder sehen und berühren konnten.
