As a reminder, winter weather causes frequent closures on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but that doesn't mean your winter adventure stops at the closed gate. Behind the closed gates, parkway visitors can enjoy popular winter pastimes such as sledding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, wildlife viewing, snow play, even ice climbing.

Winter recreation on the parkway can require extra preparation. Expect delayed response times in emergency situations, especially on closed road sections. Please plan ahead. And please don’t block the gates when accessing the parkway during winter closures.
