By the end of 1938, Japan had 24 divisions tied down in China, with over a million soldiers, leaving only one division in Japan. Today, it is estimated that during the eight years of the full-scale war (1937-45), between 14 and 20 million Chinese people were killed, and some 80 million became refugees, while Japan suffered 4.55 million casualties (killed, wounded or captured) on Chinese battlefields, which represents 70% of all Japanese losses during the entire WW2!
