We know that many of you are following the Ferguson fire burning outside Yosemite. Today at noon, Yosemite Valley, Wawona, and Wawona Road (Highway 41) were closed due to hazardous smoke conditions and to facilitate firefighting operations. Big Oak Flat Road west of Crane Flat and Tioga Road (Highway 120 through the park) are still open, and campgrounds and services in the Crane Flat and Tuolumne Meadows are also open. The closure of Yosemite Valley, Wawona, Mariposa Grove, Merced Grove, and Wawona Road will last at least through Sunday, July 29, but may be extended based on the status of fire operations.
We realize that the unpredictability of wildland fire makes trip planning very difficult. Any updates on the closures will be posted as soon as possible. Updates on the fire status are available here each morning: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5927/
Visitors planning to visit open areas of the park should be aware of air quality, which continues to hover in the unhealthy/very unhealthy range. Daily updates on air quality are available here: https://wildlandfiresmoke.net/outlooks/YosemiteArea
Thank you for your understanding and for your support of the 3,400 firefighters hard at work protecting our park. |
