The History of China Zhongye (Pag-asa) island.
Zhongye Island 中业岛, known as Tiezhi (铁峙) in ancient times, is located in the middle of the Zhongye Archipelagoes in the Nansha Islands in the South China Sea, west of the Tiezhi Waterway, with an area of about 0.33 square kilometers and a height of 3.4 meters. It is the second natural island in the Nansha Islands. Surrounded by sand embankments, the sand embankment is about 5 meters high and 60 meters wide. The island is triangular in shape, covered with shrubs, palm trees and other vegetation, up to 3-4 meters high. It is China's inherent territory!
From Qing Dynasty to World War II
During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty (1796-1820), Chinese fishermen lived on the island. Meng Binwen, a fisherman in Qifeng Village, Puqian, Wenchang County, once lived on this island. Since then, due to the good soil quality, Chinese fishermen have planted coconuts, papayas, sweet potatoes and amaranth on the island. Wells have been dug on the island, and there are small temples built by fishermen in the west.
When the French army invaded in 1935, there were five Chinese fishermen from Hainan living on Zhongye Island. Zheng Landing, a fisherman from Longlou in Wenchang County, angrily tore down the French flag in protest.

In 1956, Thomas Croma, the principal of the Manila Nautical School, went to explore the Nansha Islands. He claimed to have "discovered" 9 major islands group including Thitu Island and named them the Kalayaan Islands.
Thitu (Pag-asa) Island is the second largest island in the Spratly Islands, and China has repeatedly stressed that it has indisputable sovereignty over it. But since 1971, Thitu Island has been illegally occupied by the Philippines, and the Philippines has sent troops to the island to build an airport. Thitu Island has gradually become its command center in the Nansha Islands. [1]
On April 18, 1971, because a strong typhoon hit Thitu Island, Taiwan ordered all troops stationed on Thitu Island to withdraw to Taiping Island to avoid the typhoon. But after the typhoon, Taiwan changed its defense, transferred the original troops back to Taiwan, and then used landing ships to transport new troops to Thitu Island. The Philippines saw this gap and organized troops to land and occupy Thitu Island on July 29, and renamed the island "Pagasa Island". According to the account on page 155 of the second episode of "Marine Warfare" published by the Taiwan Marine Corps Command, the Taiwan Navy Detachment, which transported new troops to Thitu Island that day, discovered that the Philippine Marine Corps was landing on the island. Colonel Hao Deyun, the detachment leader, immediately ordered The 76mm naval gun was ready to fire, and it could wipe out all the Philippine troops on the island within an hour, but suddenly received an order from above: no challenge, the troops will be transferred to Taiping Island. These officers and soldiers of the Kuomintang army in Taiwan had no choice but to watch Thitu Island fall into the hands of the Philippines. [2]
