Securing a new world record in his bag, Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja has climbed the world's tallest 14 peaks in a short duration of six months beating an old record of almost eight years.

In order, the 14 mountains were:
Annapurna, Nepal, summit reached 23 April
Dhaulagiri, Nepal, 12 May
Kanchenjunga, Nepal, 15 May
Everest, Nepal, 22 May
Lhotse, Nepal, 22 May
Makalu, Nepal, 24 May
Nanga Parbat, Pakistan, 3 July
Gasherbrum 1, Pakistan, 15 July
Gasherbrum 2, Pakistan, 18 July
K2, Pakistan, 24 July
Broad Peak, Pakistan, 26 July
Cho Oyu, Nepal, 23 September
Manaslu, Nepal, 27 September

Personally, I don’t just climb mountains for the breath taking view or the glory. I take that risk, so I can live every moment of my life. Things get a lot simpler when there’s a fine line between life and death .

Things I do. Why I do? My thought process.

On this exact day, I decided to abandon my helicopter flight to #Dhaulagiri base camp (my next mountain after #Annapurna).

I knew I was jeopardising the project, for which I have resigned from the UKSF sacrificing my full pension and there was no going back to the same group, as my identity was already exposed. Knowing that I had remortgaged my house to part fund the project and certainly knowing the risk of what if I couldn’t complete the mission. Being fully aware that I would miss the weather window on Dhaulagiri and certainly knowing the morale of my team members who’s been waiting for me on Dhaulagiri would be very low.

Despite all this, taking risk to my life and my team’s, I decided to take my team Mingma David Sherpa Gesman Tamang and Geljen Sherpa to go up on the mountain again, which we had summited 36 hours ago, to rescue Dr Chin, who was reported to be missing.

It was an informed decision to put LIFE ABOVE ALL. Although, we were massively short on funding, we never took a single penny from anyone neither the insurance company nor from his family.

I will be talking about this incident in depth in #BeyondPossible, my first ever book. Discarding politics, it will be written with brutal honesty.
