如今人们说到汽车，要可靠性找日本车，要性能找德国车，要豪华拉仇恨找英国车，要超跑找意大利车，那要什么才想得起来找法国车呢？

历史上，法国车是很牛气的。30-40年代末，还没有意大利超跑什么事；德国跑车只会傻跑，一点品都没有；英国跑车，呃，还要再过10年才出生。那时的法国跑车就是世界顶级，没有之一

但除了超豪华的跑车，1934年的雪铁龙Traction Avant在技术上领先时代。没错，领先于如今“理所当然领先潮流”的德国BBA。采用unibody、前驱，这些都是30年后才在其他主流车上出现的。前驱免除了从前到后的驱动轴，减轻系统重量，降低重心，提高packaging的效率，如今是不二选择。但前驱也要解决驱动与转向的冲突，需要差动器，在30年代，这还是不小的技术难关。Traction Avant在当年是作为sports car使用的，性能上一骑绝尘。这是战前最成功的法国量产车

法国人对汽车设计的灵动好像中国人对诗词一样，过了唐宋，像样的诗人、词人一下子就少了，说没有了也不算太夸张。法国也一样，过了50年代，汽车设计的灵感一下子“干涸”了，直到2001年，冒出这样一个奇怪但灵动的东西。这不是迷你玩，而是雷诺的豪车Avantime，认真与BBA顶级竞争的。在理念上，这还是很有吸引力的：宽大的车内空间，超大的双门，无B柱，全长玻璃顶，车内也是很艺术的简约设计，后排作为抬高，本来就没有B柱，现在视界更好……。但市场不领情，这东西太另类了，超出有钱但缺乏想象力的富豪们能接受的范围。说到底，富豪们需要的是受到工人的豪华象征，而不是谁都不明白这是什么东西、只能自己偷着乐的东西。雷诺Avantime被普遍称为Fabulous Failure

美国有Dodge Caravan，Lee Iacocca用这挽救了克莱斯勒，也开创了一整个车类。雷诺也有Espace，这是第一辆欧洲迷你玩。Espace出现得稍晚，但难说是不是抄袭Caravan的主意。这东西一点也不sexy，但是实用啊

雷诺有时也整一些邪门的，像这个R5 Turbo，发动机后置，性能直逼保时捷911，着实在赛场上把大牌赛车吓一跳。雷诺一高兴，再接再厉，整出一个“民用版”，如今可是收藏的热门
