Charles M. Lieber表示，在深圳这片充满活力和创新的土地上，与大家一起共同打造全球科技中心、实现更多的科学梦想是他未来几年的奋斗目标。他已经准备好在深圳开启新的研究之旅，迫不及待想尽快投入到工作中，希望与清华深圳国际研究生院及深圳医学科学院一起并肩开启这段新征程。
Charles M. Lieber是国际纳米科学与化学领域的顶尖科学家，中国科学院外籍院士，美国国家科学院、国家医学院以及艺术与科学院院士，曾获包括沃尔夫化学奖与威尔许化学奖在内的众多奖项，2000-2010年间被汤森路透评为“全球顶尖化学家”之首，2017年被哈佛大学授予最高级别荣誉教授称号。 Charles M. Lieber也是纳米材料研究的先驱，尤其在将纳米技术应用于生物医学、电子学等领域取得突破。他开发了新型纳米材料的合成方法，推动了纳米线、纳米电子器件及生物传感器的发展，相关研究在计算、光子学、神经电子学等领域具有里程碑意义。他曾获韦尔奇化学奖、沃尔夫化学奖、NIH科研先锋奖等。
Charles M. Lieber在材料化学与物理、纳米生物电子学、脑科学与脑机接口技术等研究领域均做出原创性贡献，他的加盟将促进清华、深圳市材料学科和生物医学工程的进一步发展，促进材料与不同学科、与国内外优秀团队的深入交流合作。

Lieber was arrested in 2020 as part of a US Department of Justice investigation under the China Initiative. The controversial initiative was launched in 2018 by the first Donald Trump administration to investigate researchers in the US suspected of hiding Chinese connections.
The effort to counter suspected Chinese economic espionage and research theft was criticised for impeding academic collaboration and fuelling anti-Asian bias. It ended in 2022.
In 2021, Lieber was convicted of making false statements to US federal investigators about ties to the Wuhan University of Technology and Beijing’s Thousand Talents Plan, which aims to attract overseas researchers to bolster China’s scientific development.
He was also convicted of tax violations for failing to report income from the university. Lieber pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In April 2023, Lieber was sentenced to time served – two days in prison – and two years of supervised release, including six months of house arrest. He retired from Harvard University in February that year. 查了一下，他患的是 滤泡性淋巴瘤（Follicular Lymphoma），一种慢性、低度恶性的非霍奇金淋巴瘤。虽然这种癌症通常无法根治，但许多患者可以通过治疗 长期存活，带病生存数年甚至十多年。
